Cranio-Sacral therapy has, over the last hundred years, developed out of traditional osteopathy. The human spine runs from cranium (skull) to sacrum (sacral bone). It is apparent that disorder in one part of the spine produces not only problems at that site but also elsewhere.
At a deep level of our physiological functioning all healthy, living tissues subtly “breathe” with the motion of life – a phenomenon that produces rhythmic impulses which can be palpated by sensitive hands.

In this type of treatment the rhythm has been identified as “primary respiratory system”, the cranial rhythmic impulse; a superficial rhythm expressed at an average rate of 6-12 cycles per minute.

In the biodynamic approach of Cranio-Sacral work the subtle rhythm is regarded as expressions of health that carry an essential ordering principle for both body and mind. The fluids in the body play an important role (particularly cerebrospinal fluid) in helping to disseminate these ordering forces throughout the body.

By gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, the restrictions of nerve passages are eased, the movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spinal cord can be optimized, and misaligned bones are restored to their proper position.

Mental stress, neck and back pain, headaches, migraines, tiredness, concentration problems, chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia are relieved. It is also useful during pregnancy where other medication is usually best avoided.

Deep relaxation helps the body’s innate ability to heal itself; the immune system is strengthened and a general improvement in well being and physical and psychological benefits is caused.
